Health Ministry
The United Methodist Church understands health as physical, spiritual and social well-being and being in harmony with each other, with the environment, and with God.
Our mission is to promote health and healing in our congregation and our community.
Our church is blessed with four nurses who take turns taking blood pressures and testing blood glucose levels the first Sunday of every month. Those nurses who regularly perform this service are Georgiana Coray, Cathy Danielson, Linda Niwinski, and Mary Romero.
Educational programs are also a major part of fulfilling our mission. The programs are usually conducted between the first and second services on topics such as fall prevention, universal health care, psychology and spirituality, mental health, cancer, and end-of-life programs. We were especially fortunate to have news anchorwoman, Carol LeBeau deliver a very impactful sermon on health and wellness. She shared how she overcame her own battle with mental illness.
Two programs have been spin-offs of the Health Ministry — Prayers and Squares and the Children’s Sensory Room.
Our church library includes many resources regarding physical and mental health issues, as well as preventative information, parenting, and children's education.
Our Health Ministry does not meet on a regular basis because we are primarily busy providing health ministry services. Anyone interested in participating is most welcome, and anyone with a health background is particularly needed. Contact Lois Knowlton for more information at (619) 466-3094.
